The Hub and I are getting baptized Sunday so I wanted to prepare my four year old about what to expect. I told him that there would be a tub of water and that CS would dunk daddy in the water and then B would dunk mommy in the water. I told him he could sit up front but had to stay with Sissy (the Teen.)

He asked the normal questions like what is baptism? and why are you getting baptized? I explained to him in terms I thought he would best understand that we love Jesus and Jesus lives in our heart and being baptized is a symbol of our new life as a Christian. Then he asked if he could be baptized, too. I told him he had to wait until he was older and again I explained to him that baptism is for people that love Jesus very much and have decided to let Him to live in their heart forever. The boy responded, “…but I love Jesus and He is in my heart, too!” (Good point, kid…) I reassured him that when he was older and he fully understood what baptism is about he could make that decision for himself.

Boy: Can I at least have wet hugs when you get dunked?

Me: Uh…sure… :p
